DVM, MA, DACVIM (SAIM), MBA
Dr. Scott Rizzo
A Louisville native, Dr. Rizzo has dedicated his career to expanding access to advanced specialty veterinary care for pets and families throughout Kentucky. After earning a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from the University of Kentucky, he pursued his passion for veterinary medicine at Colorado State University, completing both a Master’s degree in Anatomy and his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. He continued his advanced training with a small animal internship and internal medicine residency at the University of Tennessee, where he became board certified as a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine.
Dr. Rizzo specializes in diagnosing and managing complex diseases affecting the gastrointestinal tract, liver, kidneys, endocrine system, and immune system in dogs and cats. Over the past 15 years, he has developed particular expertise in interventional radiology and interventional endoscopy of the urinary tract, performing minimally invasive procedures such as laser lithotripsy, ureteral and urethral stenting, and subcutaneous ureteral bypass (SUB) placement. These advanced, image-guided techniques often provide effective alternatives to traditional surgery, helping reduce pain and recovery time for patients.
In 2009, Dr. Rizzo returned to Louisville and served as co-owner and medical director of a referral specialty hospital before co-founding Veterinary Specialist Partners (VSP) with Dr. Grace Clark in 2019. In 2025, he earned his MBA from Bellarmine University to support the continued growth of VSP and expand access to specialty services across the region. He is also the Founder and CEO of Veterinary Oncology Partners (VOP), an innovative telemedicine platform that helps primary care veterinarians deliver personalized chemotherapy protocols and oncology consultations within their own practices.
Outside of work, Dr. Rizzo enjoys life in Louisville with his wife, Danielle, their son, Mason, and their two dogs, Max and Lola.
